SHELTER: Any structure that provides a safe place to live, work or play.
From disaster relief bungalows, to modular communities, to mid rise offices to an entire smart city… new building types, methods and materials makes SHELTER the industry with the most opportunity for growth for the next generation.
CR Shelter began in 1972 as a family owned Design Build Development Company (WAK INC) in Houston, Texas. Being licensed in 22 States and with 5 offices around the country, they were a sole-source General Contractors for Consolidated Resource Corporation out of New York with 127 Shopping Centers and Consolidated Capital out of San Francisco with over 60 Apartment Complexes and 12 Million SF of Office Space Nationally.
In 1982, we opened the Design Development arm of the company. Bringing in Charles Sims, lead designer from world renown WATG, the company expanded its scope beyond its two clients and started developing projects of its own. These projects were ground up design build in nature and ranged from Lifestyle and City Walk Mixed Use Centers to Office/ Retail Commercial to Institutional and Hotel Resorts. In 1991 another phase of its evolution began by a simple introduction to a large Developer that was looking for a Project Underwriting, Concept Creation and Construction Management firm to assist them. The World became small as we then began working on projects around the planet and became exposed to the Humanitarian opportunities and the Groups that provide the funding for those types of Projects.
Opening an Office in Northern Nevada in 1990, the company branched out into the high-end custom residential market in and around Lake Tahoe while maintaining the home Office in Houston. The market and timing were great and the Residential Division Designed and Built Award Winning custom homes in The Street of Dreams and Parade of Homes and has been featured on HGTV, ABC Home Show, Custom Design Builder, DuPont, Luxe and Reno Magazine. While the Design Build Division was continuing to expand its reach, even winning an International Architectural Competition in Hangzhou, China, the Development Team had become introduced to a Global Banking Group out of Zurich, a 3rd Generation Swiss Banking Family that has been focused on Asset leverage for funding global projects. For the last decade we have focused on everything from carbon credits to precious metals and rare earths to assist in the funding efforts for these and other Projects.
